Tronox/Kerr-McGee TiO2 case moves up a gear

Pressure mounts on Kerr-McGee/Anadarko as bankrupt TiO2 producer receives US government backing

The case involving bankrupt titanium dioxide (TiO2) producer Tronox Inc. and its former owner, Kerr-McGee, has intensified as the US Government intervened claiming that Kerr-McGee tried to “hinder, delay or defraud” the country.  The US Attorney General authorised a complaint from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) against Kerr-McGee and new owner Anadarko Petroleum Corp. which backs the accusation that the defendants spun off environmental clean-up liabilities dating back over 30 years in an attempt to wash its hands of responsibility (see IM June ’09, p.18, Bankrupt Tronox sues former owner).
