Govt. ban confines Shanxi bauxite mining; US prepares WTO case against China

The continuing provincial government ban on mining in Shanxi province, owing to environmental and safety reasons, has further impacted the availability refractory grade bauxite in China.

Industry sources revealed to IM that production of Shanxi Bauxite is now confined to just four producers, which include Chinalco’s Xiaoyi and Qingyuan mines. There are apparently no privately owned operating sources of refractory grade bauxite in Shanxi.
