The Port of Antwerp has got the go-ahead from the government of the Netherlands to widen and deepen the Western Scheldt, increasing access to the Belgian port for large container ships.
The issue had created tension between the neighbouring countries after the Dutch Council of State halted the plans in July 2009 due to complaints from bird conservation groups.
