Workers at California borates site locked out as union rejects new contract

US Borax, a subsidiary of Rio Tinto Minerals, has decided to lock out employees at its California operations after the failure to negotiate a new labour agreement with union representatives.

 

The decision came after five months of negotiations with the International Longshore & Warehouse Union (ILWU) Local 30, which has not accepted an offer made by the group on 28 January.
