Chinese soda ash prices rise

Higher input costs and recovering demand from flat glass underpin price gains

Prices for soda ash from China, the world’s largest market, are on the rise as producers in the country seek to offset increasing input costs.

 

A recovery demand for soda ash from the domestic flat glass industry has been underpinned by strengthening automobile production, housing, and commercial construction, helping producers pass increases through, industry sources told IM.

 

Export prices for Chinese synthetic soda ash dense & light have been quoted as: $240-280/tonne, up from $240-255/tonne (CIF Far East); and $170-200/tonne, up from $175-190/tonne (FOB China).

 

In the domestic market, it is understood that producers are pushing towards price increased of RMB 1,600/tonne...
