Markets quiet around Chinese New Year; antimony trioxide slipping while SiC firms

As we enter the Chinese New Year many markets are quiet, with much activity on hold until the end of the Spring Festival, particularly for minerals such as magnesite, bauxite, barytes, fluorspar and rare earths.

 

Prices for metallurgical grades of chromite have firmed over the last few months driven by higher ferrochrome demand and prices underpinned by improved stainless steel markets, particularly in China.
