Ceramics enter “exhaustive” recovery period

Recovery to follow construction market; Italian ceramics sector down 29.2%; But 4.4% pa growth forecast for US tiles

For the ceramics market, 2010 is going to be a year of “exhaustive recovery”, according to the chairwoman of the Turkish Ceramics Federation (SERFED), Zeynep Bodur.

“During times of turbulence, it is important to maintain liquidity in the market and support the real sector with aid packages,” Bodur commented. “Ceramics is part of the construction sector and this is one of the sectors that was most affected by the crisis.”

Turkey itself is well placed to secure an advantage in the industry when conditions for ceramics improve. Its healthy trade relationship with the world’s growing economics, plus its key location straddling the markets of East and West, may determine how well Turkey’s ceramics exports perform in the short to medium term future.
