Galaxy Resources Ltd plans to build a 40,000 tpa plant to process battery grade electrolytic manganese dioxide (EMD) at its site near Shanghai, China, adding to its lithium plans at the same site.
The Australian group expects to complete a definitive feasibility study by Q3 2010, secure funding for project in Q4 and complete construction by Q4 2011.
EMD is used to produce cathode electrodes for alkaline manganese dioxide batteries and lithium-ion manganese rechargeable batteries, a growing market due to the rise of portable electronics.
