Chromite prices set to rise

High ferrochrome demand puts pressure on non-met chromite prices

expected to rise by at least $25-30/tonne in the next quarter as strengthening demand for chrome ore for ferrochrome production puts pressure on availability for supply.

 

Over recent weeks, prices for metallurgical grades have edged up as ferrochrome producers, whose stocks of chrome ore are running low, return to buying. 

 

Latest published prices for South African chrome ore (friable lumpy basis 35-40%) stand at $200-240/tonne but spot prices are reported to be increasing weekly.
