Magnesia and alumina prices on the rise; zircon price hikes scheduled

Magnesia prices are rising across the board and fast as a shortage of Chinese export licences and quotas have made supply short.

New licences are expected to be issued in the next two to three weeks, but in the meantime, buyers who have not already contracted material are facing steep price increases.

 

Fused magnesia prices are climbing with prices reaching even higher this week, with indications much as $1,050/tonne for top grades, up another $50/tonne. Meanwhile, dead burned magnesite prices are closer to $390-400/tonne for 90% MgO FOB China, but again...
