South Africa’s national mineral technology institute, Mintek, has appointed John Batty as manager of business development. Batty joins Mintek from SGS South Africa, where he was manager of metallurgy and mineralogy, responsible for businesses including extractive metallurgy, bioleaching, flotation and mineralogy. Batty has more than 25 years of experience in process metallurgy and research.
What business areas are you looking to develop at Mintek?
My background is process engineering with particular emphasis on bioleaching and the scale-up from laboratory scale to full industrial scale. I intend to develop the process engineering skills existing at Mintek to a point where we can deliver technologies proven at industrial scale. Mintek has developed many technologies that still need to be industrially proven, which could generate huge revenues once they have industry acceptance.
