Magnezit to increase fused magnesia capacity

Russia’s leading magnesia and refractories group, Magnezit Group, is to modernise its existing electrofusion furnaces at the group’s plant complex at Satka, in Chelyabinsk.

Group spokesperson, Tatania Zabrodina, told IM: “We make fused magnesia in Russia only in Satka, but there are plans for an essential expansion of production.”

Magnesite Powder Workshop No.4 within the Satka complex is the group’s sole production facility for fused magnesia, utilising four electrofusion furnaces which are to undergo “modernisation”.

During January, Magnezit commissioned the first modernised electric furnace, increasing the site’s production capacity by 30%.

The remaining three furnaces are also to be upgraded. By the end of the first quarter of 2011 Magnezit expects total fused magnesia production capacity to be 50,000 tpa.
