CMP finally starts high alumina plant construction

Shanxi Diversified Industries (SDI), part of China Mineral Processing Ltd (CMP), is to use a proprietary process to produce a high alumina refractory aggregate branded Aluxite using a bauxite feedstock.

Construction work on SDI’s 115,000m2 site in the Taiyuan Economic Development Area, Taiyuan, Shanxi province, started in 2006, with the original plan to build a 100,000 tpa plant by 2008.

However, although a pilot plant has been successfully in operation since 2003, the SDI bauxite mining and processing joint venture has only just been given the final go-ahead.

The delay in the $8m. project has been due to technical difficulties with the product, and consequent financial constraints on the equipment provisioned.
