Norwegian miner develops technology to produce alumina from anorthosite

Nordic Mining ASA, in association with Norwegian Institute for Energy Technology (IFE), has been awarded financial support for its alumina extraction project by carbon capture and storage group, Gassnova SF.

Gassnova has invested 700,000 Norwegian krone ($123,000) into the project, amounting to 66.7% of the total project costs, Nordic’s Exploration Manager Mona Schanche told IM.

Tests, which are to be carried out at IFE’s laboratory in Kjeller, will aim to extract alumina by chemical leaching with the addition of CO2.
