Alumina prices climb on new indices; fluorspar and rare earths continue ascent

Chinese export prices for brown fused alumina (BFA) has risen consistently in 2011, indicating rising global demand for abrasive materials.Traders told IM that Chinese BFA prices are increasing by as much as $10/tonne for prices (0-25mm lumps) but are still, for now, below the $700/tonne level with “highest reasonable price” quoted at $670/tonne.Coming as another signal of the improved market conditions for abrasives globally, imports of fused alumina into the USA increased by...
