Market disagrees over graphite price rises, China mines reopen

Sources questioned by IM said that the graphite market is bullish – but not all market participants agree that the price is increasing.

Leading suppliers of natural graphite products based in Europe are starting to place a range of graphite grades in the market at higher prices this month amid ongoing robust demand and tight supply from China, company executives have told IM.

Reflective of the market conditions, latest spot prices (FCL, CIF European port) have been quoted by a variety of sources at higher levels this month with prices for crystalline large flake (94-97% C, +80 mesh) at $2350-3000/tonne, up on average 55% from $1450-2000/tonne at the start of the year. ...
