In a presentation at the 5th MagMin Conference in Madrid last month, Wilson said there was no sign of China stopping its export restrictions, adding that smuggling activities in the region remained a problem.
Refractory companies will continue to develop alternative sources outside of China to be more self-sufficient, said Wilson.
But he added: Chinas [magnesia] quality will improve with local technology and with increased presence of foreign companies.
Wilson revealed that the volume of capacity that could potentially be added from new supply projects could be estimated at 1.48m. tonnes in total.
