Tata says soda ash demand to rise, bemoans high input costs

Profit up 14% from 2009, says fertiliser output under pressure from low subsidies

Tata Chemicals Ltd (TCL) said this week that it expected domestic demand for soda ash and sodium bicarbonate to rise by 5% and 14% respectively this financial year – but added that phosphatic fertiliser was under pressure.

The chemicals giant, which produces phosphate-based fertilisers in eastern India, said it was concerned about fertiliser output because of “low subsidy, high input costs”.
