Chemtura secures Indian bromine supply with Archean Group

US bromine leader in alliance to develop by-product bromine from Kutch potash project

Speciality chemicals producer Chemtura Corp. is to establish a strategic alliance in bromine and brominated derivatives with Archean Group, of Chennai, India.

The partnership, for which a letter of intent has been signed, focuses on Archean’s marine chemical facility, located in the Rann of Kutch, Gujarat, in north-west India, which is aiming to produce sulphate of potash (SOP) and by-product bromine, bromine derivatives, and gypsum.

The initiative will develop in two phases, beginning with an initial long term bromine sourcing alliance for Chemtura’s Great Lakes Solutions (GLS) business, extending to a joint venture leveraging the strengths of both companies....
