Solvay to increase fluoropolymer production capacity

Photovoltaic demand key driver of €15m. plant expansion in Italy

Solvay has announced plans to increase production capacity of certain fluoropolymer products at its plant in Spinetta Marengo, Italy.

 

The Brussels-based producer of fluorspar, barytes, soda ash, precipitated calcium carbonate, and strontium compounds, expects the €15m. ($22m.) expansion to be complete by 2012.

 

Fluoropolymers are one of the key product ranges derived from fluorocarbons, the main market (45%) for hydrofluoric acid (HF), whose production is the leading market application for acid grade fluorspar, accounting for around 53% of world fluorspar production.
