Australia’s Gulf Industrials is focused on developing its 55m. tonne vermiculite project in Uganda and is taking significant steps towards the production of 130,000 tpa vermiculite by late 2013.

Gulf increased the mining lease held at Namekara in April 2011 revealing it had an inferred resource of 55m. tonnes. The mine is now in the early stages of production with a capacity of 30,000 tpa planned for Q3 2011.

The increase in output is expected to happen in two stages. First Gulf will increase production capacity to 80,000 tpa by the beginning of 2012. By 2013, capacity is expected to sit at 130,000 tpa.

This will be achieved by installing two 50,000 tpa plant modules.

Vermiculite mined at Namkara is transported from the mine via a sealed road to the port of Mombasa, Kenya.
