The Supreme Court of India has allowed French cement producer Lafarge to resume limestone mining at its Nongtrai plant in Meghalaya, East Khasi Hills district, the company confirmed to IM.
Following a court’s ruling prompted by environmental issues, Lafarge’s subsidiary Lafarge Umiam Mining Pvt Ltd (LUMPL) ceased mining limestone on 5 February 2010 at its 2m. tpa operation.
