Namibian finance minister announces 17% mining tax raise

Announcement made on state radio, is to avoid financial crisis

Namibian Finance Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila said that non-diamond mining tax will increase from 37.5% to 44%.

Changes in the ownership of mineral rights would also be taxed, Kuugongelwa-Amadhila said.
