The growing refractory markets of India and China, mainly driven by the booming steel sector, are continuing to prompt leading western refractory producers to establish and expand their presence in this region.

Paris-based Kerneos Aluminate Technologies is to start construction of a new calcium aluminate cement (CAC) plant
at Visakhapatnam (Vizag), in Andhra Pradesh, India.

The new plant will have a production capacity of 30,000 tpa CAC manufactured by the sintering route, using calcined alumina and limestone as feedstock, to produce a range of CAC grades to serve the Indian refractories market.

Magus Marketing Pvt Ltd, a well established player in the distribution of refractory materials in India, is partnering Kerneos in the project (see interview in Trading Faces p.66).

Kerneos said: “This plant will accompany the increasing demand of high performing products for the refractory
market to sustain the growth of the Indian steel industry.”
