Galaxy’s China lithium project hits five-month delay while Talison expands

Galaxy’s concerns by labour shortages at Jiangsu and 36% over-budget; Australia’s Talison plans to produce LiCO3

Talison Lithium’s spodumene plant at Greenbushes, Western Australia is soon to see an expansion to 740,000 tpa lithium concentrate, as well as a new lithium carbonate plant. 

Galaxy Resources Ltd’s lithium carbonate plant being built in Jiangsu, China, has been hit by a five-month delay due to labour shortages, the Australia-based company announced in mid-July.

The 17,000 tpa plant, which was scheduled to start up in the second quarter of 2011, is now expected to complete commissioning in the fourth quarter.

Construction work has also run 36% over-budget due to a rise in material requirements, with Galaxy now expecting to spend a total of A$99.8m. ($106.4m.) on the project.
