Molycorp signs one deal, cancels another; Afghanistan has “1m. tonne” resource

Molycorp, the US group developing the Mountain Pass rare earths project in California, made two notable announcements over the last week.

First, the company said it had made a “significant investment” in Boulder Wind Power, which has designed a rare earth magnet-powered wind turbine generator. The investment was part of a $35m. equity raising.

Boulder Wind Power’s generator operates with rare earth magnets that do not contain dysprosium, a relatively scarce and expensive rare earth element.
