Dry bulk rates hit “psychological barrier”

Shipping outlook bleak on slower Pacific activity as strikes reduce coal output

Rates for shipping dry bulk industrial minerals rose this week, but the outlook looked bleak after Australian miners strikes reduced coal production and due to global economic fears lowering Chinese iron ore buying.

 

Shipper also considered if the dry bulk market was bouncing off a psychological ceiling, and not allowing rates to rise too much, as well as preparing for Chinese national holidays next week.
