Miner could put two potash operations into production by 2017 in Saskatchewan

BHP Billiton is looking at developing two new potash mines by 2017 before potentially reaching a total capacity of 16m. tpa in Saskatchewan, Canada, according to a press report.

BHP, which is working on entering the potash industry, is developing its giant Jansen potash project near Lanigan in Saskatchewan, in addition to neighbouring deposits in Young and Melville, totalling 14,500km2.

The Jansen project – which could become the world’s largest potash mine at today’s levels – would be the first one to come into production in 2015 with a 6-8m. tpa capacity.
