Global steel use expected to grow 6.5% in 2011

World Steel Association cautiously optimistic on economy as demand improves

The World Steel Association (worldsteel) forecast global steel demand to increase 6.5% in 2011 as it gave a “cautiously optimistic” outlook on the world economy.

The trade body forecast apparent use for finished steel products at 1.398bn tonnes compared with 1.312bn tonnes reported last – which represented a 15.1% increase on 2009.
