Suppliers from Africa’s east coast experiencing sharp rise in insurance costs

Shipments of minerals from the East Coast of Africa are coming under growing threat from pirate attacks given its close proximity to war-torn Somalia, industry sources operating in the region have told IM.

“We are now operating against a backdrop of piracy. It’s a very big problem not only from a business point of view but also a humanitarian one,” commented a supplier of minerals shipping from the Kenyan port of Mombasa. ...
