Solvay boosts profit as soda ash demand up in Asia, South America

Rhodia post 32% rise in advanced materials on rare earths rally; not with Solvay

Solvay posted a 13% year on year rise in REBITDA* to €264m. ($371m.) in the third quarter of this year and a net income of €73m. ($102.5m.) despite falling profit in fluorinated chemicals.

Solvay is the world’s largest synthetic soda ash producer and operates fluorspar and strontium mines.

Sales of essential chemicals – which include soda ash —into North America declined 9% when compared to levels last year, while sales into Asia and South America increased. This was attributed to Solvay selling directly to markets this year, rather than going through (American Natural Soda Ash Corp) ANSAC. Solvay took this decision in January this year.
