Legend plans to begin phosphate rock production in Australia

Legend International Holdings Inc. plans to start phosphate rock production at its Paradise project in Australia in order to supply Indian Farmers Fertilizer Corp. Ltd (IFFCO) with raw material.

The junior developer is working on developing a range of phosphate interests near Mount Isa in the Georgina Basin, Queensland, which have combined “historical deposits” of approximately 1.2bn tonnes averaging 16% P2O5.

Legend had initially targeted Q2 2013 to start mining 1m tpa phosphate rock to be used in its own monoammonium phosphate (MAP) and diammonium phosphate (DAP) facility to be constructed at Mount Isa.

But the company had to delay its plans until “an appropriate partner joins us to aid the development and construction of the fertiliser facility,” Craig Michael, Legend’s director and executive general manager explained to IM.
