US-based integrated aluminium producer Ormet Corp. plans to restart production at its idled Burnside, Louisiana refinery within weeks, according to chief executive Michael Tanchuk.
In May the group announced it had secured enough funding to resume production at the US facility, which was idled in 2006, where it plans to bring online 540,000 tpa of new alumina capacity.

The refinery will produce alumina trihydrate (ATH) and smelter grade alumina, the latter of which will be shipped to Ormets 270,000 tpa aluminium smelter in Hannibal, Ohio.
