Prices for acidspar, rare earths, falling; refractory minerals feel pinch

Prices for Chinese acid grade fluorspar have fallen by as much as $100/tonne since the start of the fourth quarter as demand from end markets such as fluorocarbons and fluoropolymers have suffered seasonal downturns.In addition to seasonality, however, demand for Chinese acidspar has also declined significantly as many end user companies in China face overcapacity issues.Elsewhere, acidspar prices have not had such dramatic falls. In Mexico, it is understood that producers are sold out with little incentive for them to lower the price range, quoted FOB Tampico, which is sitting at $540-550/tonne for low-arsenic material.South African prices are also not expected to see significant drops from a high level of $450/tonne, FOB Durban.Indian graphite prices are expected to rise by between 10-15% next year, market participants told IM this week, as the market scurries...
