Egypt’s mineral industry unaffected by elections turmoil

Mineral production including phosphate as normal but end markets show concerns

The mineral industry of Egypt is running as normal despite the political turmoil in the run up to this week’s elections in Cairo, Alexandria and seven other provinces, industry players confirmed to IM.

 

Egypt’s natural resources include natural gas and petroleum, and therefore a production of about 4m tpa sulphur as a by-product of the oil industry, in addition to industrial minerals such as phosphate (2.2m tpa), barytes (500,000 tpa), bentonite, dolomite (1.4m tpa), kaolin (416,000 tpa), feldspar...
