Labour costs push up micaceous iron oxide prices

Standard grade prices up 3-4% while demand for high quality MIO grades firms

Kärntner Montanindustrie GmbH (KMI), world leader in micaceous iron oxide (MIO) pigment production, has implemented annual price increases to its standard grades in response to increasing labour costs in Austria.

KMI, which is the world’s largest MIO producer, accounting for about 90% of the supply market, exploits MIO from its underground mine in Waldenstein, Austria. Recent negotiations between unions and mining companies in Austria have led to increased labour costs from the start of 2012.
