Despite last-year concerns that there would not be enough salt stockpiled to sate national demand, early results indicate that less salt would be required this year, and less has been sold.
Last week Compass Minerals, the US salt producer, released its Q4 2011 highway de-icing sales results online. The company, which worked hard to meet quotas over the summer despite being hit with tornadoes and high demand, recorded a fall in sales volume for Q4 2011.
