Mexichem expands acidspar with Fluorita de Mexico buy

The world’s largest fluorspar producer, Mexichem Fluor, has received approval from the Mexican antitrust commission Cofeco to purchase the operations and mine concessions of fluorspar competitor Fluorita de Mexico.

The acquisition of Fluorita will boost Mexichem’s acid grade fluorspar capacity by around 100,000 tpa, pushing the group’s production to over 1m tpa.

Hector Valle, CEO of Mexichem Fluor, said that the addition of Fluorita would initially increase the group’s Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization (EBITDA) to more than 300m pesos ($21.5m) and continue Mexichem’s trend of “forward integration” in the fluorochemical supply chain.
