Joint $430m Russo-Chinese investment; could take 10-15% market share by 2015

A new joint Russo-Chinese plant has become the world’s largest capacity lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery facility, according to its owners.

The plant, Liotech, is a $430m joint venture between China’s Thunder Sky Ltd and the state-owned Russian Corp. of Nanotechnologies (Rusnano), with Thunder Sky owning 50.1% and Rusnano 49.9%.

Revenue levels of 40bn roubles ($1.3bn) are being predicted by 2015.

“The plant will be actively increasing its production capacities and if in 2012 its revenue is expected to reach Rb9-10bn, then by 2015 these figures could increase up to Rb35-40bn,” said head of Rusnano, Anatoly Chubais.

“If everything goes ahead, its share in the global batteries market will amount to 10-15%,” he added.
