Winona county in Wisconsin, US, has introduced a fee of 21.9 ¢/tonne, per mile, for businesses shipping frac sand on trucks, Mena Kaehler, of the Winona County board of commissioners, told IM.

The fee is a bid to tackle road damage caused by trucks following an unprecedented rise in frac sand activity in the area, as miners look to supply oil and gas producers in Pennsylvania and North Dakota.
