Uptick in quartz-derived solar cell feedstock in response to US China tariffs

Polysilicon has experienced a rare price rise in response to the US’s hefty tariffs on Chinese-made solar cells.

 

The solar cell feedstock mineral, derived from quartz which is upgraded to metallurgical silicon, saw an increase of 1.3% on the back of import surcharges of up to 249% - one of the largest in US history.
