Chile lithium start-up says reduced oil dependence is Asia’s long-term stance

IM spoke to Sebastian Yang of Simbalik Group as the private company sets sights on being Chile’s first lithium start-up in 17 years.

 

Not many people will know of Simbalik as a private company. Could your brief us on your company and project?

 

Sebastian Yang: Although it’s a relatively new establishment in Chile, the company’s background has ample experience in the mining sector. The Salar de Maricunga is widely known as one of the top resources in the world with one of the highest concentrations of lithium.

 

The conditions of the existing infrastructure and distance to port will prove to be a huge advantage to the overall cost of production, as compared to other lithium projects in Bolivia or Argentina.
