South and North Korea discuss jointly developing rare earths

Talks over Kores graphite project last year led to rare earths dialogue

South Korea’s state-owned Korea Resources Corp. (Kores) discussed the possibility of a joint rare earth project with North Korea to develop the latter country’s mineral deposits, it emerged this week.

According to Seoul daily Dong-A Ilbo, an official from Kores said on Monday that the talks took place between October and December as part of a second round of discussions over a graphite project in the North.
