FMC Corp. strong quarterly results owe little to lithium

Challenging production conditions push back FMC Lithium expansion

Diversified chemicals producer FMC Corporation has posted better than expected quarterly earnings, but said that these had not been helped by its lithium business.

FMC’s president and CEO, Pierre Brondeau, said that “operational issues” in its Argentinean lithium operations were to blame for a slight decrease in FMC’s Speciality Chemicals segment.

In a post-results conference call, the company described the Argentinean environment as “challenging” and hinted that its lithium production operation in the country was facing significant difficulties.
