Compass Minerals results still hindered by poor weather

Operating earnings down 30%; salt segment yet to recover from 2011 weather

Sales of US-based salt and speciality fertiliser producer Compass Minerals continue to be hindered by the “trailing effects of 2011 and early 2012 weather,” the company’s Q2 2012 results revealed.

Net earnings for Q2 were down to $9.5m, or $0.28 per diluted share, compared to $14m, or $0.42 per diluted share, for the same period in 2011.

Sales for the company remained relatively stable at $178.5m compared with last year’s figure of $179.9m. However net earnings were down by $4.5m due to a decline in operating earnings, largely because...
