India and China, the mineral rich economies of Asia, are not only a potential threat to the western players, but also to one another.
China, being the largest producer of graphite, tops the chart as the worlds leading producer, closely followed by Brazil, India, and Canada. At the moment, the Chinese graphite industry is going through a phase of consolidation, as the latest news from Hunan province shows, which is likely to decrease the countrys output.
This output will be further worsened by heavy export duties and the fact that exploration and mining operations are gradually gaining prominence in neighbouring countries especially India. Could this be a possible threat to the Chinese graphite dominance?
