Daimler follows Tesla's lead, with $1bn investment into batteries

An 'electric offensive' at the car giant drives the creation of a huge new European battery facility, shortly after a move into the home power storage market

Construction has begun on a new rechargeable battery factory in Germany as Daimler follows Tesla’s lead in expanding their electric car business vertically.

German politicians including chancellor Angela Merkel attended a ground-breaking ceremony at a facility in Kamenz, Germany, owned by Daimler subsidy Accumotive.
