Nippon Mining to start up first pilot plant extracting lithium from used batteries

Nippon Mining & Metals Co., Ltd. (NMM) plans to start up a commercial scale plant to extract metals from used lithium-ion batteries by 2011.

The Japanese company is opening a pilot plant in Tsuruga, Fukui Prefecture, to develop the process, which extracts of value-bearing metals such as cobalt, nickel, lithium...
