Ban on new lithium mines under fire as world looks for more production from Chile

Pressure is increasing from the lithium industry on Chile’s government to lift mining restrictions in the country.

Chile, which produces over 40% of the world’s lithium products, has two active companies, SQM SA and Chemetall GmbH, which extract brine from the Salar de Atacama.
