Mosaic triples Q2 profit driven by phosphate prices, volumes

US company reports improved volumes for potash but prices slump year on year

US potash and phosphate producer Mosaic Co. tripled profits in its fiscal second quarter driven by higher prices and volumes in its phosphate business.

Mosaic posted operating profits of $658.2m. in the three months ending 30 November compared with $200.1m. in the prior-year period, while sales rose 59% to $2.7bn....
